INCREASE...
The word ‘increasing’ has an interesting meaning. As in, ‘And Yeshua kept increasing in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and men’. It is a word we are familiar with and most likely read over many times without looking further into its meaning. My hope is to shed light on this word and offer you a deeper vue then what you may have been holding on to.
The root of the word ‘increasing’ is a compound of two words meaning to ‘chop’ and ‘front’. The idea is to chop down what is before you as you move forward. I think of the time I was a young kid, I would go into the woods with friends having the intentions of building a fort. We would walk through the thick brush with machetes, ‘chopping’ down what was in ‘front’ of us as we cleared the way. This chopping down gave us a better vue of the path as we moved towards our destination. It allows us to have a better vue of what was ahead of us.
Yeshua chopped and hacked through the thick brushes of blindness and selfishness and wrong ways of thinking, speaking and acting. His example of obedience in behavior was the leader through our thick woods. His decisions and choices were based on light and truth, which comes only from God the father.
Isaiah understood this process as mankind is called to do also, in their own time. He was aware that this world was full of thick brushes and the right way was not easy to see. He was aware that the only way that mankind could move through successfully is to hear God and respond to his voice in order to ‘chop’ and ‘hack’ through the wrong, just as Yeshua did. Isaiah had written some time ago, ‘The Lord God gives me the tongue of one who is learning his ways, so that I can know what to say at the right time to those around me who are tired and discouraged in their lives. He awakens me every morning, awakening my ears to hear and learn from him. The Lord God opened my ear and I did not rebel or ignore or turn my back from him’.
Just as Yeshua ‘increased’ to clear the way, as the brushes still stand aside and graze our weary arms, we too are called and equipped to ‘increase’ with the same machete that God gave to his first born or uniquely born son. Morning by morning, moment by moment, note by note, precept upon precept, experience by experience, we are to turn our ears to the Pure Spirit (mind) dwelling within us and listen carefully to its directions in all things. Follow the voice of the savior as you move through this challenging and weary life.
It is the only way to true peace and settledness inside. It is the only way to help the tired and discouraged people that God gives to our presence each and every day we awake.
Listen carefully to the voice within you and ‘increase’ day by day.
Increase within God my friend.
